The bodies of three individuals have been recovered in different parts of the country over the weekend in separate tragic incidents that have left families and communities in mourning.
In Tana River County, the body of a fisherman who went missing during a fishing expedition a week ago was found along the Indian Ocean shoreline.
The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Rama Katana, was discovered in the Shekiko area of Ozi, Kipini Division. The recovery was reported to Kipini Police Station on Sunday by the chairman of the Kipini Beach Management Unit.
According to police, the deceased was identified by his brother, James Chai, and through the clothes he was wearing, which matched CCTV footage recorded before the fishermen departed from the Beach Management Unit office in Malindi.
Katana was among four fishermen reported missing on June 21, 2026, after they failed to return from their fishing expedition. The disappearance was reported at Malindi Police Station the following day.
Police officers visited the scene, documented it, and processed all the necessary evidence before the body was moved to the Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Search efforts for the remaining missing fishermen are expected to continue as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
In Bungoma County, police are investigating the circumstances under which the body of a 35-year-old woman was found floating in a dam in Bungoma South Sub-County. The body of Martha Nafula Manyonge was discovered by villagers on Sunday morning in Mayanja Dam at Sango "B" Village.
Police officers who visited the scene established that the woman had left her home at about 7 p.m. on Saturday while appearing distressed. The deceased had a history of epilepsy and a mental health condition, according to police reports.
Her body was found naked, while her clothes—including a black pair of shorts, a black flowered skirt, an orange blouse, a black-and-white jumper and orange Crocs shoes—were recovered on the shore of the dam.
A preliminary examination found no visible external injuries on the body. Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death. Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate incident in West Pokot County, a 44-year-old man drowned while fetching water from a river in Kipkomo Sub-County. The incident occurred on Sunday morning at Kangorio River and was reported by the deceased's brother. Police identified the victim as Mathew Kapush Kapurwo.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased had gone alone to fetch water at about 11:30 a.m. when he is believed to have accidentally slipped into a deep section of the river and drowned. Police officers visited the scene and said the body had no visible external injuries.
The body was retrieved from the river, photographed and later transferred to Shalom Hospital in Kapenguria, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing, although preliminary findings indicate the drowning was accidental.
