President William Ruto has arrived in Madagascar for an official state visit, bringing with him a high-powered delegation of government officials aimed at strengthening ties between Kenya and the island nation.
The visit comes just days after Ruto concluded a five-day tour of Europe, where he participated in the G7 Summit in France and held various diplomatic engagements across the continent.
The presidential delegation includes Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui, ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
These top government officials are expected to play a key role during the visit, particularly in the upcoming Kenya-Madagascar Business Forum where they will help drive discussions on expanding commercial partnerships between the two nations.
On his first day in the country, Ruto made a grand appearance at Barea Mahamasina Stadium in the capital, Antananarivo, where he joined the people of Madagascar in celebrating the country's 66th Independence Day.
The presidential visit to the stadium was a significant moment, with Ruto greeting local dignitaries and members of the public while taking in the colourful celebrations that showcased Madagascar's cultural heritage and national pride.
Beyond the Independence Day festivities, Ruto's visit is focused on deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation between Kenya and Madagascar.
Bilateral talks are expected to centre on expanding partnerships in agriculture, trade, information and communication technology, aviation, and investment opportunities. Kenya is looking to build stronger commercial ties with the Indian Ocean island nation as part of its broader economic diplomacy strategy.
The Madagascar trip marks President Ruto's seventh foreign visit since late April this year. Before heading to Madagascar, he had already travelled to Kazakhstan, South Africa, Belgium, Norway, Finland, and France, demonstrating his administration's commitment to strengthening Kenya's international presence and pursuing economic development through strategic global engagement.
