Kieran Trippier has announced he will be leaving Newcastle United when his contract runs out at the end of the season, bringing an emotional end to a four-and-a-half-year spell at St James’ Park.
The 35-year-old full-back, who joined from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, made over 150 appearances for the Magpies. In a heartfelt message to the club’s website, Trippier admitted Newcastle is where he has felt most at home.
“The time has come to leave this amazing club,” he said. “It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.”
Trippier played a defining role in transforming the club’s fortunes. He helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League twice in the last three campaigns and was instrumental in their League Cup triumph last season – the club’s first major trophy in 70 years.
The former Burnley and Tottenham defender, who earned 54 England caps, also paid tribute to his teammates, saying: “It’s going to be emotional. It’s been an amazing journey with you guys.”
