Juja Residents Protest After String of Child Abductions Sparks Fear

Communities in the Witeithie, Maraba, and Muthaara areas are demanding urgent police action following a worrying spike in reported child abductions, with at least four incidents occurring in the past two weeks alone.

According to distressed residents, two of the missing children have since been found alive, but the fates of the others remain unclear, deepening anxiety among local families. One recent case involved a Grade Nine pupil who was allegedly abducted on Monday afternoon after being sent to a nearby shop in Maraba by her mother. She was later discovered that same night in Kimuchu village, Kiganjo area, several kilometers from her home.

Frustrated by what they describe as police inaction, residents staged a protest along sections of the Thika Superhighway on Wednesday, briefly disrupting traffic for about 30 minutes. Demonstrators held signs and called for increased visible patrols, faster investigations, and the arrest of those suspected of involvement in child trafficking.

“We have reported these incidents repeatedly, but there is no decisive action,” said one resident who asked not to be named. “The lack of police presence is leaving our children vulnerable and our families terrified.”

Some community members warned that continued inaction could lead to heightened tensions and possible vigilante responses if the situation does not improve.

Police authorities in Kiambu County have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations or the protests. Meanwhile, families across the affected neighborhoods are urging anyone with information to come forward and are advising parents to exercise increased vigilance.

The community remains on high alert as they await concrete steps from law enforcement to ensure the safety of their children.
