Bungoma County has been rocked by news of a teacher who is now in police custody over claims she was selling Teachers Service Commission (TSC) jobs to desperate young people. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Lilian Nelima Buluma, who teaches at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School, after complaints that she was collecting money from job seekers.
According to the EACC, Buluma allegedly told three complainants that she had connections within the TSC and other government offices who could get them employed. She is said to have demanded KSh 100,000 from each of them. For many families in the county, a TSC job is a big deal, since it means a steady salary and a pension, so people who have been waiting for years for a chance can be easy targets for such promises.
Investigators say that before her arrest on October 12, 2026, Buluma had already received KSh 150,000 through M-Pesa. Officers are now looking at the transactions and the messages she exchanged with the complainants to find out how many other people may have been drawn in.
The Commission has warned Kenyans to be careful with anyone promising jobs in exchange for money. TSC recruitment is done through official channels and advertised publicly, and no teacher or official can guarantee a posting for a fee. Anyone with information or who has paid money to such people is urged to report to the nearest EACC office or the TSC.
It is important to remember that these are allegations and the case has not yet been heard in court. Buluma is presumed innocent until a court finds her guilty.
