Police Probe Kitale Chaos That Left Two Officers Injured

Police in Trans Nzoia County have launched investigations into an incident in Kitale that left two law enforcement officers nursing injuries and two government vehicles damaged. The chaos is believed to have happened on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The National Police Service says some politicians may have broken the Public Order Act, Cap 56. Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga told reporters that preliminary reports show the people involved acted in ways that undermined public order and the rule of law. He described the conduct as unacceptable and said it had no place in a democracy anchored on the Constitution.

Nyaga said detectives are still working to establish exactly what happened. He promised that anyone found responsible would face the law, though the statement did not name any politician or explain how the officers were hurt and the vehicles damaged.

The warning comes at a time of heightened political activity in the county, where leaders and their supporters have been holding public rallies. Police have urged political leaders, their followers and other stakeholders to keep their activities peaceful and within the law.

The service warned that anyone found inciting supporters, sponsoring criminal gangs, engaging in violence or disrupting lawful gatherings will be dealt with according to the law, regardless of their social status or political affiliation.

Nyaga insisted that the police remain apolitical and committed to their constitutional mandate.
