Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the Nairobi governor seat in the 2027 General Election. He made the announcement on Sunday during a worship service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church, hosted by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
Mosiria told the congregation that Nairobi needs a leader who knows how the county works from inside. He said he has served in several departments at the county government, and that his work in health, environment and customer service has prepared him for the top job. He pointed to the first ICU and medicine supply in Nairobi, which he says is still working today, as proof that he can deliver for residents.
He also spoke about his time at the environment department, where he says he worked hard to clean up the city before he was moved to customer service.
According to him, his current role has allowed him to step in and help vulnerable women and children, and he says he has taken up their problems and worked to improve their welfare.
He believes that record speaks for itself, and he insists he will do even more once he is in State House... sorry, once he is in the governor's office at City Hall.
The former environment boss was known for being vocal on issues in his docket. He led raids and crackdowns on people and businesses breaking the law, and he often posted these operations on his social media pages, TikTok included.
Some Nairobi residents liked the hands-on style, while others felt he was playing to the cameras. Mosiria, however, insists his work speaks louder than his online posts.
Mosiria also had a message for other politicians who are already eyeing leadership positions. He told them to take their plans to the people and win votes with ideas, not with violence or intimidation. He added that they should stay away from goons, and promised that he would come back to the same church for a thanksgiving service after the election if he wins.
He also publicly backed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, whom he described as a leader chosen by God. He pointed to Matiang'i's work in the education and interior ministries as reasons for his support.
Mosiria's move into the race comes after a reshuffle at City Hall. In November 2025, Governor Johnson Sakaja moved him to the Citizen Engagement and Customer Service docket through a circular dated November 18, 2025. The governor said the changes took effect immediately, and the reshuffle was part of wider changes in the county executive.
