Kalonzo Calls for Probe into Those Who Funded Chaos at Raila's First Anniversary in Bondo

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has asked the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to find and charge the people who financed the chaos witnessed during the first anniversary memorial of the late Raila Odinga in Bondo. Speaking after the event, Kalonzo said the violence was not random and that there were people behind it who must be held responsible.

The Wiper leader also made a claim that has grabbed the attention of many Kenyans. According to him, former President Uhuru Kenyatta did not attend the memorial because his security team had warned him of possible threats. Kalonzo said Uhuru had earlier sent a team to monitor the situation ahead of the event. However, after the team raised concerns about security at the venue, and after stones were hurled towards the VIP tent, they advised the former president to stay away.

Kalonzo said he was worried for the safety of the politicians who had gathered at the event. Even so, he thanked the mourners for dealing with the youths who threw the stones, saying their quick action helped calm the situation. He did not say who he believed financed the violence, but he insisted the investigation should follow the money and not stop at the people caught on the ground.

The memorial was meant to honour Raila, who remains a towering figure in Kenyan politics, and many people had travelled to Bondo to pay their respects. Events of this kind are often tense, and Kenyans have repeatedly called on leaders to keep political gatherings peaceful, especially when large crowds and rival political groups are involved.

At the time of writing, no official police statement had been issued on the claims, and there was no immediate response from Uhuru's office. Kenyans will be watching closely to see whether the police act on Kalonzo's call and whether the former president's side responds to the allegations.
