Family in Butula Wants Answers After Man Gets Hurt During Physiotherapy

A family from Lugulu village in Butula Constituency, Busia County, wants detectives to probe a local hospital after their relative was badly hurt while he was undergoing physiotherapy.

The family says Meshack Wesonga, 56, was injured on October 8 when he was allegedly made to fall off a physiotherapy machine. They claim the attendant who was helping him increased the machine's speed, and that is when he lost his balance and fell.

According to the family, the fall left Wesonga with broken bones in both legs and injuries to his spinal cord. An X-ray, they say, showed that one of his legs was broken in two places and the other had a single fracture. His relatives also say he was left sitting for a long time after the fall, which they feel is a big concern given how serious his condition was.

Wesonga's family says he stayed in the hospital for three weeks and only received basic treatment during that time. They add that when they asked for him to be moved to another facility for specialised care, the request was turned down at first. Later, when they were finally allowed to take him elsewhere for treatment, they were asked to pay an extra 25,000 shillings. The family insists the injuries happened while he was under the hospital's care, which is why they feel the bill was unfair.

The family is now calling for a thorough investigation into how the accident happened and the treatment their relative received. Butula detectives have reportedly confirmed that they are looking into the matter.

When reporters reached out, the hospital management had not responded to the allegations. The extent of Wesonga's injuries and the medical care he was given remain under investigation, and the full facts are yet to be established.
