EACC Recovers KES 3.6 Billion and Saves KES 10.4 Billion From Being Lost

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered assets worth KES 3.6 billion that were linked to corruption and unexplained wealth. The anti-graft agency also says its quick action stopped KES 10.4 billion in public funds from being lost.

The CEO of EACC, Mr. Abdi Mohamud, shared these numbers on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, in Mombasa. He was appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of the National Assembly, where he gave an update on how the Commission has been spending its budget for the 2025/26 financial year.

According to Mr. Mohamud, the Commission will be keeping a closer eye on big public projects that cost a lot of money. He also said EACC will be working hard to stop bribery at service delivery points, where ordinary Kenyans go to get services from government offices. Recovering stolen money and property will remain a key priority, and the Commission plans to open more offices across the country so that Kenyans outside Nairobi can access its services more easily.

The meeting also gave EACC a chance to share its views on Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2024, which is the National Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Policy. The Commission supports the policy's goals, which include making it easier for people to access justice, reducing the huge backlog of court cases, and encouraging different dispute resolution methods to work together. However, EACC feels that some safeguards are needed, especially when it comes to using ADR in criminal matters.

EACC has proposed that the policy clearly say ADR in criminal cases must follow the Constitution and other laws in force. The Commission also wants the policy to spell out exactly what role ADR plays in criminal matters and to list any cases where it should not be used at all. For many Kenyans, this matters because criminal cases involve serious issues that cannot be settled quietly outside the courts.

Mr. Mohamud ended his remarks by saying EACC remains committed to fighting corruption and unethical conduct. He added that the Commission will keep using public money carefully, openly and efficiently while doing its legal work for the people of Kenya.

JLAC Chairperson, Hon. George Murugara, praised EACC for its work in protecting public resources. He also promised that his committee will support the Commission as it expands its operations to more counties.
