Oburu Hosts Senate Energy Committee at Home as He Recovers from Hospital Visit

Senator Oburu Odinga has received a delegation from the Senate Energy Committee at his Nairobi residence, signaling his continued involvement in legislative matters even as he recuperates following a recent hospital visit. The ODM party leader was discharged from the facility on Monday morning and is now recovering at his home in the capital.

The courtesy visit by the committee members on Thursday came just weeks after Oburu stepped down from his position as chairperson of the Senate Energy Committee. He handed over the leadership role on August 11, 2026, though he maintained his membership in the committee, allowing him to continue participating in its activities.

The delegation that visited Oburu comprised Senate Energy Committee Chairperson Senator William Kisang, Vice-Chairperson Senator Beatrice Ogolla, and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo. According to Oburu, the visit was primarily to check on his wellbeing as he continues with his recovery process.

"They paid a courtesy call to check on my wellbeing as I continue resting at home, leading to a productive update on the committee meetings, advancing our legislative agenda, and strengthening policy oversight in the energy sector," Oburu said in a statement.

Beyond the wellness check, the meeting served as an opportunity for the committee to brief the senior politician on the current work being undertaken by the Senate Energy Committee and the progress being made on the legislative agenda. The discussions centered on the committee's ongoing work, legislation, and policy oversight matters affecting the energy sector.

Oburu has been keen to dismiss various reports and speculation that have been circulating on social media regarding his health. He previously stated that he was in good health and had only gone to the hospital for a routine medical check-up before returning to rest in Nairobi. The senator has emphasized that his condition does not warrant the level of alarm that some of the reports have generated.

"The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person," he said, addressing the speculation that had surrounded his hospital admission.

The Siaya Senator also mentioned that during his time at the hospital, he received visits from numerous leaders, including Cabinet secretaries, which demonstrates the high regard in which he is held across the political establishment. He noted that one Cabinet secretary, Opiyo Wandayi, the Energy CS, was among those who visited him during his stay.

Oburu took the opportunity to normalize the circumstances around his hospital visit, noting that illness is simply part of the human experience and should not be cause for undue concern. His decision to host the Senate delegation at his Nairobi home while he recovers provides a fresh indication that he remains actively engaged with political and legislative affairs, even while taking time to rest and recuperate.

The senator emphasized the importance of collaborative leadership in driving sustainable development and accountability across the nation. His continued participation in committee matters, even from home, underscores his commitment to his legislative responsibilities despite his current focus on recovery.
