This comes as the nation continues to experience mostly sunny and dry conditions, making the sudden weather shift something residents should take seriously.
According to the latest five-day forecast, several regions are expecting to receive notable amounts of rainfall during this period. The alert has been issued to help communities prepare for potential flooding and disruptions to normal activities.
Areas such as West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi County are among the counties that meteorologists have identified as being at risk of experiencing significant rainfall.
Western Kenya is expected to receive some of the heaviest downpours. West Pokot is forecast to experience moderate afternoon showers on Sunday and Monday, followed by moderate showers on Tuesday and lighter showers on Wednesday before conditions improve on Thursday.
Trans Nzoia residents should also prepare for moderate afternoon showers on Sunday and Monday, with lighter rainfall expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Uasin Gishu, meanwhile, will experience moderate afternoon showers from Sunday through Tuesday, with sunny intervals expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
The situation in the highland regions presents an even more challenging picture. Nyandarua County is projected to record some of the lowest night temperatures, with minimum readings falling to as low as 7 degrees Celsius on Monday, 6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and 7 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This combination of heavy rainfall and very cold nights could prove difficult for communities living in these areas.
Nairobi residents should expect night temperatures ranging from 12 to 14 degrees Celsius during the forecast period, while daytime temperatures will hover between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.
This represents relatively cool and pleasant conditions for the city, though residents should still be prepared for the expected showers. Machakos County will see slightly warmer conditions, with night temperatures between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius and daytime temperatures ranging from 21 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Other counties like Nyeri will experience chilly nights with temperatures between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. The meteorological authority has specifically warned residents in Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Machakos, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Meru to brace for cold and cloudy conditions during this period.
Kakamega residents should expect light afternoon showers throughout the five-day period, with additional light rains forecast for Wednesday morning followed by sunny intervals.
Bungoma County will receive light afternoon showers from Sunday through Wednesday before the weather changes to sunny intervals on Thursday.
Nyandarua will experience a combination of light rains and showers, including afternoon showers on Sunday and Tuesday, with light morning rains expected on Monday and Thursday.
The rainfall patterns across different regions suggest that some areas will be more heavily affected than others. Kericho County is expected to receive light afternoon showers on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with sunny intervals forecast on Tuesday.
