The government has finally released much-needed cash to thousands of households across the country enrolled in the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme.
In a move that will bring relief to many struggling families, the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services confirmed that the money covering April, May and June payment cycles is now available for withdrawal. Each household has received Ksh 2,000 per month, totalling Ksh 6,000 for the three-month period.
The disbursement officially kicked off on Friday, July 31, through the contracted Payment Service Provider. This comes as a welcome reprieve for guardians and caregivers who have been waiting patiently for this support to help put food on the table and meet other basic needs for the children under their care.
Important Steps for Beneficiaries
The State Department for Children Services has issued clear guidance to all beneficiaries to ensure smooth collection of their funds. According to the Ministry, those who have not yet collected their money should first confirm receipt of the official payment notification from their Payment Service Provider before heading to any payment agent.
This step is crucial, officials say, as it helps avoid unnecessary complications and wasted trips. The government is keen to ensure the process is as seamless as possible for vulnerable families who cannot afford to spend their precious time and little resources moving up and down.
Where to Get Help
For households experiencing any challenges with their payments, the Ministry has set up multiple channels where they can seek assistance. Beneficiaries can visit the nearest Sub-County, County or Regional Children's Office where officers are ready to help sort out any issues.
Alternatively, families can simply pick up their phones and call the toll-free line 1533. This helpline is available to offer guidance and address any concerns regarding the cash transfer programme.
Looking Ahead to July Payments
In what will be even more encouraging news for beneficiaries, the State Department has indicated that preparations for the July 2026 payment cycle are already at an advanced stage. Families will be notified once that disbursement is ready, ensuring there is continuity in support for our most vulnerable children.
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Children Services, CPA Carren Ageng'o, has reiterated the Government's unwavering commitment to timely social assistance for vulnerable households.
She noted that the programme continues to play a vital role in strengthening household resilience, while also enhancing access to education, healthcare, nutrition and child protection for the children who need it most.
This cash transfer programme remains one of the government's key interventions in the fight against poverty and vulnerability among children, and many families across the country are counting on this support to keep their children healthy, in school, and well-fed.
