DCI Takes Over Investigation Into Alleged Abduction of Businessman Jimmy Mutava in Mlolongo

A high-profile investigation into the alleged abduction of businessman Jimmy Mwanzia Mutava has now been handed over to Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations, signalling the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case.

The incident, which occurred on July 27, 2026, has left the family desperately seeking answers and the public wondering about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Mutava, a well-known businessperson, was reportedly dropped off at an entertainment joint in the Mlolongo area at approximately 6:30 p.m. after arriving in a white vehicle.

What happened in the minutes and hours that followed has become the centre of a widening investigation that has raised serious questions about the involvement of security personnel in the case.

According to reports and CCTV footage that has emerged, a senior police officer attached to Mlolongo Police Station was seen entering the entertainment premises shortly after Mutava arrived. Just a few moments later, another man joined the meeting.

The footage captured Mutava seated inside the establishment, holding two mobile phones, while another man wearing a hood stood across the premises, watching the scene unfold and talking on his phone.

The actions of those present that evening paint a picture that has left many questioning what really transpired.

Around 8:20 p.m., Mutava was spotted walking out of the entertainment joint while still speaking on the phone. However, the senior police officer who had entered the premises earlier remained inside with a woman.

This detail has become particularly significant, as it contradicts claims reportedly made to his family that the officer had stepped away to use the washroom when Mutava vanished.

Within moments of Mutava stepping outside, witnesses claim that armed men wearing masks approached him and allegedly forcibly abducted him before driving away to an unknown location.

The speed with which events unfolded, combined with the presence of security personnel at the venue, has fuelled public concern and speculation about the nature of the incident.

The DCI confirmed on Sunday, August 1, that it has officially assumed responsibility for the case following the report filed at Mlolongo Police Station. The Anti-Abduction Unit, a specialised division within the DCI, is now leading the investigation.

In a statement, the agency revealed that detectives are actively pursuing several persons of interest as they work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mutava's reported disappearance.

The investigation comes at a time when the businessman's family remains in the dark about his whereabouts and condition. His wife has been vocal about the family's anguish, maintaining that they have received no communication from Mutava since the incident and continue to appeal for his safe return.

The uncertainty and lack of answers have left loved ones anxiously waiting for any news that might shed light on what happened to him that fateful evening.

The DCI has promised to keep the public informed of significant developments as the investigation progresses. The agency has also made a public appeal, urging anyone with information that could assist the detectives to come forward and report confidentially through its toll-free hotline or WhatsApp platform. Such information could prove crucial in unravelling the mystery and potentially locating Mutava.

This case has raised serious concerns among Kenyans about security, accountability, and the need for thorough investigations when allegations of abduction involving uniformed officers emerge.

As the DCI continues its probe, many are watching closely, hoping that the truth will be uncovered and justice served for Mutava and his distressed family.
