Police Officer Arrested After Threatening to Kill Senior Colleague

A police constable from Kegonga Police Station in Migori County is currently cooling his heels in custody after he allegedly threatened to kill his senior officer while armed with an AK-47 rifle.

The incident, which left many officers at the station in shock, happened on Wednesday when Constable Danson Kombo Kangu reportedly lost his cool and decided to turn his weapon against Corporal Samwel Mate.

According to police reports, the officer was carrying a fully loaded AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition when he confronted his senior colleague and started hurling abusive words at him before issuing the chilling death threat.

The situation became even more terrifying when the officer reportedly declared that he would carry out a massacre before fleeing the station. This sent panic among other officers who were present at the time.

The matter was immediately reported by Corporal Daniel Plimo, who was the duty officer at the time of the incident. He quickly alerted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kegonga about the serious threat.

A manhunt was immediately launched, with the OCS personally leading the search operation for the missing officer. The search team combed through the area until they finally managed to track him down at about 3:00 pm within Kegonga Township.

The suspect is currently being held in custody as police begin both disciplinary proceedings against him and criminal investigations into the matter. The rifle and ammunition he was carrying have also been recovered as evidence.

This incident comes at a time when there have been growing concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of police officers in the country, with many calling for better support systems within the force.
