The football world is currently on fire after a Paraguayan senator made some very ugly racist remarks about French football star Kylian Mbappé.
This whole drama started after France knocked Paraguay out of the World Cup in the Round of 16 with a tight 1-0 win.
The senator, Celeste Amarilla, was clearly bitter about the loss and took to social media to vent her anger in the worst way possible. She posted a racist tirade on X, calling the French captain all sorts of names.
She called him a "brute" and a "colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French," which is a very disrespectful way to refer to someone whose father is from Cameroon.
She even went as far as to associate him with "chimpanzees" and said he "sucked on coconuts" instead of drinking his mother's milk. To make matters worse, she suggested that the Paraguayan players should have slapped him after the match.
But Kylian Mbappé, who is not one to keep quiet when faced with injustice, fired back hard. He didn't hold back, describing the senator as a "despicable woman" who is "unworthy" of her high office. In his response, Mbappé showed a lot of class by defending the Paraguayan team, reminding everyone that they played with passion and honour.
He said that because of her recklessness and blatant racism, the world has forgotten the good work of the players, and instead everyone is now talking about this incompetent woman giving her country a bad name. He ended by saying he will never allow people like her to spread their hatred and racism across the world.
The French Football Federation (FFF) has also come out strongly in support of their captain. They have called the senator's comments "utterly abhorrent and unacceptable" and have announced plans to file a criminal complaint against her.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, also gave Mbappé his full support. Even the Paraguayan government has distanced itself from the senator's remarks, saying they do not represent the values of their country.
And what did Senator Amarilla do after all this backlash? Instead of apologizing, she doubled down. She claimed that her problem is with Mbappé's "arrogance" and his refusal to shake hands with the Paraguayan goalkeeper after the match.
