Omanyo Now Tells ODM: Give Me That SG Job Permanently, Warnings to Opponents

The political heat in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is far from over. Acting Secretary General Catharine Omanyo has now openly declared that she is ready and willing to take over the party’s top administrative job on a permanent basis.

This comes just hours after the Registrar of Political Parties officially removed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from the position, finally putting an end to months of uncertainty and legal fights within the party.

Speaking to residents of Maira Village in Nambale Sub-County, Omanyo welcomed the Registrar’s decision, saying it was a necessary step to protect the party’s unity and discipline.

She argued that Sifuna had violated the party’s code of conduct and that the move was long overdue. The Registrar’s office, in a letter dated July 9, 2026, confirmed that the removal process complied with both the Political Parties Act and the ODM constitution, and that the party’s official records had been updated to reflect the change.

But Omanyo did not stop there. She made it clear that she deserves to be trusted with the position on a permanent basis, pointing to her unwavering commitment to defending and strengthening the party during these challenging times.

She reminded the residents that she has been loyal to ODM and has served the party diligently, even when things were tough.

Sources indicate that she was first appointed in an acting capacity back in February after the NEC meeting in Mombasa removed Sifuna, and she now believes it is time to make that appointment official.

In a bold warning, Omanyo told those opposed to her appointment to prepare for a tough political contest. She insisted that her record of loyalty and service makes her the most suitable candidate for the role, and she is not about to back down without a fight.

Her message was clear: she is ready to lead the party’s secretariat and steer ODM in the right direction.

However, Sifuna is not taking this lying down. Through his lawyer, Senior Counsel Isaac Okero, he has already challenged the Registrar’s decision, calling it procedurally improper and arguing that the Registrar ignored his responses. He has vowed to pursue legal remedies, meaning this battle is far from over.
