Mystery of 113 Missing Train Wagons Finally Coming to Light

Uganda Railways officials have opened up about a long-standing mystery that has haunted the Kenya-Uganda railway line for nearly two decades.

The Managing Director of Uganda Railways, Benon Kajuna, has reported the disappearance of 113 train wagons that vanished without a trace in the quiet town of Nyahururu.

The shocking revelation came after Kajuna made an official statement to the police, bringing fresh attention to what many had thought was a forgotten case.

According to his account, the valuable railway assets went missing sometime between 2006 and 2017, during a period when the famous 2,350-kilometre metre-gauge Kenya-Uganda railway line was under private management.

During those years, the rail line was being run by Rift Valley Railways (RVR), a private consortium that had taken over operations of the crucial transport corridor linking the two East African nations.

It was under their watch that the wagons simply disappeared, raising serious questions about accountability and management of shared resources.

What makes this case even more mysterious is the explanation given by Ugandan government officials who appeared before Parliament.

They claimed that the missing wagons had been transferred to what they called a "virtual station" in Nyahururu, after which they became completely untraceable.

This unusual explanation has left many wondering what exactly happened to these important railway assets.

The timing of this investigation is significant because the old Nyahururu railway line, which had been lying dormant for years, has just been brought back to life.

Kenya Railways successfully revived the historic Nairobi-Gilgil-Olkalou route in June this year, restoring hope to communities that depend on rail transport.

Faced with mounting pressure, the Parliament of Uganda has now taken action. Lawmakers have directed Uganda Railways to produce concrete evidence of any recovery efforts and to begin the process of locating and recovering the missing wagons.

It is a move that signals serious intent to uncover the truth behind this long-standing railway mystery and ensure that accountability is finally served.
