Kenya Power Clarifies Transformer Removal in Mbeere North After By-election

Residents of Mbeere North can now breathe a sigh of relief after Kenya Power came out to clear the air regarding the recent removal of 15 transformers from their area.

The electricity distributor has explained that the exercise was not a scheme to shift the equipment elsewhere but rather part of a routine maintenance plan that had to be carried out.

According to the power company, the transformers were removed between May and June this year after they developed various technical problems.

Kenya Power revealed that some of the units had been affected by water ingress while others had defects that could not be fixed while still on the ground.

The firm insisted that taking them away was the only way to properly repair them and ensure they serve the community well again.

The good news for the locals is that 14 of those transformers have already been fixed and returned to their rightful places.

However, one unit is still missing after vandals struck last week and damaged it beyond repair. Kenya Power has assured the public that a replacement transformer will be installed this Friday, July 10, to ensure that area residents do not suffer from power interruptions.

This clarification comes after area residents raised alarm bells over the missing transformers, which had been installed under the government's Last Mile Connectivity Programme.

There were fears that the equipment had been secretly moved to Ol Kalou, a claim that Kenya Power has now dismissed as untrue.

The company has urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities around power installations to help curb vandalism, which continues to be a major challenge in the sector.
