Governor Waiguru slams CS Duale Over divisive rhetoric that threatens national unity

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has strongly condemned Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale over controversial ethnic profiling remarks made regarding the Ol Kalou by-election, calling for an immediate apology to the Kenyan people.

In a statement posted on her social media on Thursday, Waiguru expressed deep concern about Duale's comments directed at the Agikuyu community, describing them as hy3nas following their election loss. She argued that such remarks are not only unacceptable from a person of Duale's calibre and political experience, but also dangerous and oversimplified.

"The ethnic profiling remarks made by Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale in response to the Ol Kalou by-election are deeply regrettable. It is both overly simplistic and dangerous to reduce the government's political challenges to tribal prejudice, especially when this very Kikuyu community stood with us so overwhelmingly in the past," Waiguru stated.

The governor emphasized that Duale's utterances have no place in Kenya's political discourse, particularly as the country prepares for the upcoming General Election. She warned that careless rhetoric threatens the unity that Kenyans have worked hard to build and maintain across different communities.

Waiguru called on all political leaders to embrace responsibility and sobriety in their words and actions. She stressed that Kenya belongs to all citizens, including the Kikuyu people, and that national unity must never be compromised by thoughtless public statements. Her message resonated with many Kenyans who fear that divisive language could harm the country's social cohesion.

The incident highlights growing tensions within the political establishment as various leaders jockey for position ahead of the elections. Analysts say such conflicts could complicate efforts to maintain peace and stability during the electoral period.
