Gachagua Says Ol Kalou Vote Was Between Ruto and Kikuyus

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told Kenyans that the Ol Kalou by-election was not about the candidates who were on the ballot. He said it was a straight fight between President William Ruto and the Kikuyu community, and the people have already made their point clear.

Speaking during a church service at ACK St Thomas Cathedral in Kerugoya, Gachagua said the president should expect the same outcome in next year's General Election if he does not change his ways.

He accused Ruto of turning his back on the community after they gave him overwhelming support in 2022, and also going after their leaders who are holding important positions in government.

The former DP said he stayed away from the Ol Kalou campaigns even though many big names from the community were pushing him to show up. He said he knew from the start that the contest was between the president and the mountain, and there was no way the community was going to lose that election.

In the final results, DCP's Sammy Ngotho won the seat with 35,440 votes, leaving the UDA candidate Samuel Muchina far behind with only 5,450 votes. That result has been seen by many as an early sign of where things are headed ahead of 2027.

Gachagua also hit out at Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku for trying to create division within the Mt Kenya region. He said Ruku's recent comments about Mt Kenya East not caring about Mt Kenya West are part of a plan to break the region's unity so that Ruto can get back to State House.

He warned the community not to fall for that trick, saying the only way the president can win again is if he succeeds in splitting the mountain vote.

He urged the people to stay together and add their numbers to other Kenyans who want change, so that Ruto can be shown the way home.

Gachagua maintained that the Ol Kalou result has already proven that voters in the region are more united than ever, and they will not be divided by anyone working for the president.
