Opposition leaders pulled a lively night rally in Kakamega County on Friday, making a late stop at Shikamoli-Makunga area as they push to win Western Kenya’s support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The team, led by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) boss Rigathi Gachagua, his deputy Cleophas Malala, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, had spent the whole day touring towns like Luanda in Vihiga, plus Kisa East and Malava in Kakamega. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other regional leaders also joined them for some parts of the trip.
At every stop, the leaders told residents that opposition parties must unite behind one presidential candidate if they want to kick out President William Ruto in 2027. They said grassroots engagement and smart political coordination are the only ways to make that happen.
After the Kakamega rally, Gachagua went on social media to share his thoughts. He said Western Kenya cannot be left behind in the fight to transform the country.
“Western Kenya must be an integral part of the transformative agenda to reclaim our country,” he posted. “This region, which commands a substantial number of votes and boasts a large, vibrant population, must be at the forefront of social and political transformation.”
He added that talking to the people of Shikamoli-Makunga made him even more sure that change is possible. “Our resolutions have borne fruit, signalling that no regime will ever again manipulate the lives of the people of Western Kenya,” Gachagua said. “Better days lie ahead.”
Kalonzo also kept it short and punchy on social media after the long day. “Sisi ni serious. KOMBOA KENYA,” he wrote.
The leaders argued that a united opposition will create a strong alternative political platform that can pull votes from all corners of the country. They said the night rally is just the beginning, and more regional tours and consultations are coming as they build a solid front for 2027.
