iTax Portal Experiences Heavy Traffic as Kenyans Rush to Beat Tax Deadline

The Kenya Revenue Authority has this evening issued an update to millions of taxpayers as the clock ticks towards the end of the tax filing season. With today being the final day for submitting 2025 Income Tax Returns, the iTax portal is currently experiencing a massive surge in traffic as Kenyans rush to complete their filings before the deadline passes.

If you have been trying to log in to the iTax system today and found yourself staring at a loading screen or encountering some delays, you are definitely not alone.

The KRA has acknowledged that the high number of users accessing the platform simultaneously has caused some intermittent challenges, and many taxpayers have reported difficulties in accessing their accounts or completing their submissions smoothly.

The taxman has however moved quickly to reassure Kenyans that their technical teams are working round the clock to keep the system stable and ensure that as many people as possible can file their returns without too much headache.

The authority appreciates the millions of taxpayers who have already filed and paid their taxes on time, and they are doing everything possible to support those who are still trying to beat the deadline.

In their latest update, KRA has reminded taxpayers that they can still access the iTax portal through the official website at itax.kra.go.ke. For those who may be facing challenges with the online platform, there is also an alternative option where you can simply dial *222# from your phone to file your tax returns. This could be a lifesaver for many who are struggling with the online system due to the heavy traffic.

The message comes directly from the Commissioner for Micro & Small Taxpayers Department, indicating that the authority is particularly mindful of the smaller taxpayers who may be feeling the pressure as the day winds down.

The KRA has thanked Kenyans for their patience and understanding during this busy period, acknowledging that the last-minute rush is something that happens every year when the 30th June deadline approaches.

As the evening progresses, it is advisable for taxpayers to keep trying and to explore the alternative options if the main portal proves to be too slow. The  *222# shortcode could be a simpler and faster way to get your returns filed without having to deal with the heavy online traffic. Remember, the deadline is today, and the KRA is doing its part to ensure that the system holds up under the pressure.
