Huduma Centres Nationwide Paralysed as Power Outage Hits Nakuru Data Centre

Huduma Kenya has announced a temporary shutdown of services at all Huduma Centres across the country following a major power outage that hit its data centre in Nakuru.

In a statement to the public, the agency explained that the blackout has affected the availability of key government services that Kenyans normally access at these centres. “We wish to inform the public that services are temporarily unavailable at the Huduma Centre due to a power outage that affected our data centre in Nakuru,” the agency said.

According to Huduma Kenya, technical teams have already been deployed to the affected site and are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. The agency has assured Kenyans that efforts are underway to resolve the problem, though no specific timeline has been given.

Key Services Affected

This disruption has hit the engine of Huduma Centres, meaning many regular but very important services will either be delayed or completely unavailable. Among the hardest hit are services related to national identification cards. Kenyans who had gone to apply for new IDs, request replacements, or collect ready cards will now have to wait longer, something that is already causing frustration for those who need IDs for essential transactions.

Passport application services and document verification processes have also been affected. This means travel plans, job applications, and even international engagements that depend on timely issuance of travel documents will likely face interruptions.

Business registration, licensing, and renewal services offered through Huduma Centres have not been spared either. Entrepreneurs and companies seeking permits or trying to comply with regulations will find their operations disrupted, affecting commercial activities across the country.

Other government services such as NHIF, NSSF, KRA PIN updates, and processing of birth or death certificates are also limited at this time. This is a major inconvenience for many Kenyans who have come to rely on Huduma Centres for integrated public services under one roof.

Not the First Time

This is not the first time Huduma Kenya has faced such a challenge. In a notice issued on April 20, the agency revealed that apart from the GPO branch in Nairobi, the disruption had also affected the Huduma Contact and Tele-Counselling Centre.

More recently, on May 29, 2026, Huduma Kenya attributed delays in issuing identity cards to ongoing technical challenges affecting its system. At that time, members of the public had already been complaining loudly about the prolonged wait for this critical document.

For now, Kenyans are advised to keep following updates from Huduma Kenya as technical teams work around the clock to bring the data centre back online and restore services countrywide.
